I tried some movies of my daughter, the first time ever using a DSLR in movie mode.

The exposure proved challenging for me.

She had a spotlight on her,mwith a whitish shirt, and the #### was getting blown out in the live view. I tried adjusting but could not figure it out. In photo mode I have not been stuck with a situation like that,mbut I found it challenging in movie mode.

I also noticed the camera somehow taking over aperture and or ISO settings.

Any suggestions on how to set the exposure In movie mode.? Am I correct in perceiving the camera was adjusting the settings?

Most of us D800 Movie shooters are far from recommending our settings.

There are separate from still settings for Live View Movies.

This camera tries to focus on bright items like windows behind subjects.
It is hard to use single spot and track faces with FullTime AutoFocus.
I am going to try AFS instead of AFF next time,
mostly due to the constant refocusing (sharp, blur, sharp),
but also the lens noise generated (thankfully not picked up by Azden external mic).

I checked that fourm but there are only a few threads.

I'm curious what microphone model number you have? Do you like it? The internal mic is very sensitive to any camera noise or handling noise.

I like the Azden_SMX_10 better than any external mic I've tried.
Sound is very good and has good rubber isolation from the camera too.
I sent a copy to my son on Christmas.
So far I have used it on the D7000, D5100, V1, and now the D800.
