"HELP Newbie questions"
Wed 09-Jan-13 03:06 AM by RSchussel

Vallejo, US

I am transferring from a D7000 and need peoples help.

I formatted my SD card Scan Disk Extreme Pro 16G. It shows 199 shots available in RAW. When I take a picture I can review it. When I tried to use Nikon Transfer (which I just updated) it does not recognise any shots on the camera card.I also tried JPEG and that didnt work either in either Tranfer or ViewNX.

Both ViewNX and Transfer recognise the D800 but doesnt think the memory card either exists? or doesnt have any shots to down load.

Any help appreciated

Bob

the picture size in jpeg is Basic L 7360X4912. RAW is the same size

When I used a card reader I was able to down load the pictures. In RAW they were about 43 Meg

I noticed that using the menu I cannot format the memory card. However if I use the Mode and Format buttons I can do it.

If you would like, e-mail me a JPEG you can't open and I'll see if it works for me...

When formatting from the menu - You have to use the OK button on the bottom left of the camera for the final OK.

Did you install the software that came with the D800?

Be sure that you have the most up to date versions of ViewNX and Transfer.

Larry and Perrone
thank you.
I thought I was update beacuse I had the latest version of ViewNX. However I did not realise that there is now a ViewNX2.

Get rid of your Nikon Transfer and ViewNX. The new ViewNX2 runs much faster especially the 64 bit version.

All that being said I still cant downlad from the camera. Only the cardreader works. Now that I have full size filesto look at I understand why people salivate over the D800 pictures.

Any suggestions are still appreciated

Ok so I tried hooking up my D800E with my USB3.0 cable and all pictures and videos (from both CF and SD cards) imported as normal in LR4.3. Also tried CaptureNX2 and it reads images correctly also right out of the camera. My next question would be what USB cable are you using??? Is it the one that came with the D800 or a standard USB2.0 cable and is it plugged into the correct USB port on the computer????

I used the Nikon supplied cable. Nikon transfer out of ViewNX2 recognises the camera and the amount of used space on the card. It just wont transfer anything out of the camera

Ok I think I got it for you, I loaded ViewNX2 and opened Nikon transfer. Brings up transfer screen. Now it shows the D800E but no pics, I believe that's what you are seeing.... Now left click the pic of the D800 (has a little down arrow on the button) and pick slot two... should pull up SD card pics for you....

Hope this is it....

YOU ARE THE MAN.

Although the SD card looks like it is in slot 1 Nikon Transfer thinks it is in slot 2.

Don't know how to thank you enough.
