"D800e metalic ring"

Walsall, GB

Hi all,

Just taken delivery of a D800e and I hear a metalic ring each time the shutter fires. It goes on for a second or more after the shutter has fired.
Does not seem like it's normal to me what do you think?

Mike

Mine is a D800 but it should be the same and I would say not normal. Of course it is difficult without actually hearing the sound but if lasts for a second or more, it is not a sound mine makes.
If you bought it at a local shop, go back and compare to their dispaly model.

Hi Mike.
the shutter on the D800 sounds pretty much like the shutter on all other DSLR cameras. Nothing special about it. so yours sounds like it has something wrong with it.

With the flash open, it could be those funny brackets that rattle??

Thanks for the replies. I managed to talk to Nikon in the UK this morning and demonstated the noise over the phone. Got the stock "never heard that before" (could well be true I'm just an old cynic).

Recommended I return it for replacement which I have done.

Avisys, interestingly they asked me to fire it with the flash up and down which actually made no difference this time but it looks like they know about that problem.
I'll let you know when my replacement arrives.

They know of the common comment from users that the scissor brace arms for the pop-up flash rattle sometimes so that would have been the first thing to eliminate as a possibility.
