"Noise & EV compensation"

Hi,

A friend uses D800E and largely shoots at 100 ISO. For low light, she increases the exposure up to 5 stops instead of increasing the ISO. Her reason is:

"I've found it has the same impact as increasing the ISO but without the noise problems. As a result, I normally don't even consider changing the ISO, although I'm constantly adjusting the EV."

Can this be possible?
