I just returned my d800E (within 30 days for reasons unrelated to qc) and reordered another D800E. The return s/n was 30072xx and the new s/n is 30087xx. The D800E now must be in a reasonably fast production mode so I'm guessing the focus and qc issues have been solved on the production line.
