"Nikon D800E won't format SanDisk CF cards"


US
          

Just received my D800E and find it won't format any of my Extreme III or IV cards.

Tried through Menu, but process won't start.

Pressed Mode+Delete, LCD displayed blinking 'For', but images remain on card.

Latest firmware.

Any suggestions?

And you don't have a second card in the SD slot?

When you format the CF card, if you then display images and some are on SD, they show up instead even if the card is set to backup or overflow.

Hello 'spotmeter'

I did some testing with an Extreme III (4GB) card and
my D800 was able to format the card without a problem.

The only suggestion that I have is to check your Playback
Folder selection on the set-up menu. If it is not set to 'ALL'
then try that setting and do a card format. Otherwise, I am
at a loss. Good luck.

Try to format the card in your computer. If that doesn't work, then you have other issues. If it works, then put the newly formatted card into the camera and try again.

Will the camera format CF cards ok? Will it format other brands of cards ok?

Manual says not to format cards in computer.

There is nothing wrong with formatting cards in the computer. What you DON'T do is format in the computer, then try to shoot photos without re-formatting in the camera.

Did any of the files disappear? The individual image lock button could be inadvertently be pressed while reaching for the + button if you are used to a camera that had that button in another position.
If that is OK, a Two Button Reset would be the next step if the cards can be reformatted in the computer/card reader.

When you press the Mode + Delete buttons, "For" will blink; you then have to release both buttons and press them again to complete the format process.
