Yes, it is!

I got mine last Saturday. My first impression can be summarized in one word: WOW!

I put on my 70-200VR and 28-300VR and shot some flowers for tests. I was AMAZED that the inside of the daffodil. and the pollen dust, was so clear and detailed taken from about 10ft with both lenses. I would have expected that from my macro lens but especially not the 28-300. Certainly impressed me when I fisrt took a look. Also getting pictures of Goldfinches at the same distance I used with my D90....and the same 28-300VR. The D800 is soooo much better showing the details in the feathers and crispness/sharpness in the beaks and feet. Not to mention so much better and richer color.

Really glad I made the switch!!

Only problem I am seeing is one of my JPEGs was 27 MBs yesterday and
I do not want to give up quality to save memory card and hard drive space.
I also sell FullSize JPEGs on my website.
Can you imagine the problems I will have emailing 27 Megabyte files.
Very few customers can handle a 10MB file now.

I checked it out and did not even get to the cost or loss of control over my images.
I have control of everything from picture taking to printing and delivery on my website.

Apparently 1,000 pixels is the max size.
It is no where near to 7360x4912 for a D800 image.
My customers can already download up to 1200pixels wide from my site.
I have been emailing them FullSize JPEGs up to 4928x3264
and seldom have problems up to 8 megabytes.
My decision must be made soon on whether to shoot the next event at full resolution (large fine JPEG)
or save that for group shots and landscapes with the D800.

I use Photoshelter and Have uploaded Tiffs over 60mb, raws and jpegs as well any size I want no limits - I recommend them ..great way to archive and/or deliver images of any size

Photoshelter.com has no limitations on file size that I am aware of. I frequently have customers download very large JPEGS (8 to 24 MB) and now have even had several Nikonians download a 45.6 MB NEF file to test the D800's output for themselves.

You have complete control over pricing, printing, and delivery. You can integrate Photoshelter with your current website, as deeply as you'd like. You can use (or not) a full-blown cart system for direct sales and download. You can embed galleries from your Photoshelter.com site into other websites. You can sell fine art prints, priced according to your own schedule.

Photoshelter is a professional image delivery system used by some of the world's most famous photographers. Don't discount it so quickly.

I noticed while forwarding a sample pic to my brother in law the other day that gmail upped the file size to 25mb. Seems like everybody, not just flickr, is making adjustments for the increased file sizes of everything these days. I still had to send 3 emails...

I am very happy with my current PicturesPro Program and WebSite.
Up till now, emailing >10MP FullSize JPEGS has not been a problem.
Large orders have been burned to DVD and mailed.

Enter the D800 with >30MB sized JPEGs. I have not tried emailing these yet.

I only gave PhotoBucket a quick look and now you say it can handle those files with a quick download.
How many can it handle?
We take >10,000 pictures at an Event.
Are they kept on your server or theirs?
What would be the cost at this volume?
Would the cost exceed my current net profit?

I don't want it to sound like I am complaining.
The large file size in this case equates to large (CropAble) images
that are much better quality than I expected.

And, the High ISO results are far better than I could have imagined.

In reply to the op, it is a superlative camera.

I paid no attention to the armchair reviewers who did not have a camera yet proclaimed it lacking and not worthy of their purchase, etc. They are strangely silent now.

I count myself lucky to own such a camera with beautiful colors and sharpness, and so many control enhancements over the d700.

I dislike only the loss of focus selector external to the camera, and the reversal of the + and the - to expand the picture preview.

File size I can deal witH my doing a better job of culling my shots, and limitIng the number of shots of the dosage scene.

The d700 was excellent and I sold mine in good conscience. I have no regrets makin( the switch.

I can finally join a forum with my own feelings about the D800
What I noticed was that in the early days of the wondering about
the release date on the camera everyone seemed ready to fork out
the cash and not look back. After the release, which isn't that long
ago the mob started to find reasons not to buy the camera. I know
because i was one of them. I considered the lens issue being inferior
to do the camera justice and the battery part needing different batteries
and cards, etc. Well the day the D800 arrived I even kept it in the box for 3 days.
Serious doubts began. I was a victim of the web. I called my local camera dealer
and told him about the saga and he said, "do me a favor and go out and shoot".
Take any lens put it on the camera and bingo, the doubts vanished into the air
from where they came. It indeed is a great camera, a break through for Nikon and
the perfect camera for travel. It is light. The first 6 shoots were great and a big foot
forward. I am a D800 believer! Kenta
