"D800 incompatible with 3rd Party Lenses??"

While testing out my D800 with all of my lenses I found that when I mount my Tamron 90 SP Macro to the D800 and use in in Live View mode and manual focusing, it 'twitches' the Live View screen and makes little 'clicking' sounds... coming from the camera/lens. In auto focus mode there is no problem with the jittery screen or the noises...only in Live View in manual focus. In all cases the actual focus of the image is fine.

I contacted Tamron and they tell me that there should be no problems with compatibility with the D800. I also tested the Tamron 90 with my D90 and had no problems at all. I know there is another thread about the D800 and manual focus but wanted to get this out to others as a main thread to see if anyone has tested and found any problems... or if they will! My gut reaction after the tests is that the problem is related to the D800 compatibility since the D90 works fine with the same lens. Any thoughts or other problems found by others??

You might have it wrong, Dan. Do all your Nikon lenses perform without this issue? If so it's not a Nikon problem but a Tamron problem. Nikon only has a responsibility to be compatible with their own products and not every 3rd party product ever made. I have had 3rd party products work fine with one Nikon body but not a newer one. If the problem becomes widespread then Tamron will fix the problem with a new chip version. It will be interesting to know if anybody has this issue with a Nikon lens.

You are right that I might have it wrong and I hope I do!! Like you I wanted to see if others have the same issue (and make them aware) if there is a problem. I have a Nikon 105 VR being delivered this week to replace the Tamron. Wanted one anyway.

The D800 works fine with all my Nikon gear and that's the way I'm going to keep it .... at least until I am sure that 3rd party stuff works.

By the way...I have a Nikkor 70-200 VR that I got for my D90. It had/has a reputation of being dark in the corners on FX ...but mine seems to be fine on the D800. Not being very FX informed until recently, does that make sense?

Ihave had a 70-200 VR I since my D200 purchase and have used it with my D700. I have always thought the dark corner issue is overblown. If you look real hard you will see a slight darkening at the corners but if you look at many of your other lenses on an FX camera you will see the same effect because a DX camera does not use that area.
