"first D800 issue - never saw this before"

I've taken 5 - 6000 shots with my D800E but yesterday ran into my first problem. I was shooting 3-shot continuous FPS and got 3 - 4 out of 700 shots with this purple coloring on the lower half of the image. Anyone have any thought? This is a crop to meet the size limits.
Definitely going to Melvile ASAP.

I had something similar happen with my D300 and I posted a question on that forum a few months ago. I got responses ranging from a bad shutter, to a bad card. My issue eventually turned out to be a bad connection between my card reader and my computer. I bought a new one and the problem ended. An easy way to test for this is to re-upload the pictures and see if either the problem goes away or you see the problem but other images are involved.

I had similar problem and it turned out my card reader.
Come to find out that it is not compatible with many new cards.
It is based on IDE and it is not compatible with any controllers but one particular chip.
The name of the company is Addonics. Stay away!!!!!
30% of the pictures were corrupted during transfer. The problem was random and until I actually open each picture I could not know which one was corrupted.

Ah- the card/card reader/ Hadn't thought of that, but in fact, yes - when I looked at the card again from Finder, the images are fine. So it was just the transfer - high end Sandisk card, but looks like the Delkin read created the issue, not the camera.
Big relief!

I'm glad you sorted that out. I'm looking at a D800 myself and am hoping the bugs have been worked out and want to make sure I don't end up with a problem.

Happy to report that I have not had any issues with the camera at all.
I have the E, btw, and have seen no moire in 5 - 6k shots.
