"My D800 has arrived"

Southgate, London, GB

Hi all

After much deliberation, I have opted for the D800 over the D600.

The camera is probably too good for me at the moment, but I opted for the D800 because of the ergonomics and controls resembling my D300 more so than the D600.

I also liked the Obvious bracketing control on the top dial...

Now time to read the books and get to play with it

Yours aye
Adrian

Well it arrived and charged the battery - which needed ~2 hours worth of charging before it was fully charged.

Inserted the card and battery into the camera, attached a lens and turned it on, expecting to get the date entry pages.

But seems already entered.

So I might reset the camera to factory defaults and start again, but want to see how many actuations the camera has used.

Thoughts?

You could mess around with all the 'file info' in Photoshoot, but I always forget which bit refers to shutter count.

Or you can take a jpeg and upload it to a site like http://www.nikonshuttercount.com/

Which just gives you the figure you're after.

Have fun with your D800, my girlfriend won't let me buy one until my D700 has sold on ebay (Saturday hopefully!)

Thanks I will just do that this evening..

I still have my D300 and others currently but will probably sell a couple of them and get a D600 as back up?

The D800 does not take you the date set page out of the box. There was just a message on the top LCD about setting date.

Congratulations on your new D800! I'm sure you won't regret it. The results you'll get are outstanding and will encourage you to become a better technical photographer. Unfortunately, it can't teach composition, but with such a powerful tool at your disposal, you'll start to actively pursue improving your photos in all respects...at least it has done that for me.

BTW - I skipped the books and just jumped into the play!
