The Kindle version comes out about two weeks after the print version. I received my author's copy this morning and the book is really nice. It's about an inch thick and put together well. It should start shipping to those that pre-ordered within a few days.

I expect we'll see the eBook formats appear by mid-September (or earlier).

Would of thought the ebooks would be first ??? No difference to me as i pre ordered a hard copy

I am extremely happy and excited to announce that Mastering the Nikon D800 was released today on Amazon.com (http://amzn.to/SyRBjm).

I absolutely love my Nikon D800, having shot multiple weddings and events with it. I can never go back to less than medium format again. It takes lots of hard drive space and a fast computer to deal with the file sizes; however, it's worth it for the amazing resolution!

Sit down in a comfortable chair, have your camera and the user's manual next to you, and start reading. Read with the camera in your hand and make adjustments as you read. If you will go through the camera this way, I promise you will find all sorts of things you didn't even know this powerful camera could do.

I challenge you to find a way to call up a histogram for the currently viewed image when you press the Multi selector center button. (Hint: it's in the Custom Settings menu.)

I hope you enjoy the book and will write a nice Amazon.com review when you have time. Thanks!

I am checking with the publisher about the Canada delay. I do know that Amazon.com is often quite conservative with shipping dates. It is hard for me to imagine that Canada will not have stock sooner than the end of September, when the USA already has full stock.

I'll let you know what I find out as soon as the publisher replies. Thanks for your patience!

The eBook versions come out about two weeks after the printed version. It will be available in Kindle on Amazon.com and in APK, Mobi, ePub, and PDF at www.oreilly.com. They offer a bundled deal where you can get the printed book and all ebook formats all in one bundle, with a great price.

I'll make an announcement here when the ebooks become available.

I got my paperback copy a week ago from Amazon. I am about half way through it at this time. GREAT good, Darrell. Very well organized, easy to read and very, very informative. I recommend it to all 800 owners.

Nice to hear Darrell you would like to got o the Mountains I got the impression from your reply that you thought I was in Sydney Nova Scotia CA.

I just got an email from Amazon Canada saying both my books shipped yesterday, I guess they must have got a new shipment of books because just 3 days before I received an email saying my books wont ship till end of September..... Very happy ))

The first "camera" book I have ever bought. AND I am glad I did. When I first got the D800 I spent about 4 days going over every setting and getting familiar with all the menu's. The owners manual was confusing in spots. Darrell' in depth discussion's were "right on" (I started reading it at the hospital , bedside to my wife who had a four day stay for her 3 stents after triple bypass)
Now that she is home she has heard me say, more than once....wow I did not know that ! And I thought I knew the camera very well. GREAT JOB Darrell !!!! ( my dog was not happy when I was learning the flash, never knew it had a flash preview.) I really liked your recommended settings and actually changed a couple to match as they made sense.

One thing that would be nice....Is it possible to have a quick reference card (sheet) for the menu's. Where one could pull it out and say, I want to look up menu a4 - AF activation and have your page number for that setting. Then (IMO) the book could be a "handy" reference guide. I know I could do this but perhaps it has already been done, or Darrell has notes which would make it quicker.
ALL in ALL GREAT job Darrell. You really helped me get a better understanding of autofocus and area modes. And yes I want picture after picture of seagulls in flight, had to laugh when I read that....I live in Florida. LOL
