"Trip to Los Angeles, CA next week, planning to stop at "El Segundo""

Plymout, US

I have a trip to Los Angeles next week, and I am planning to stop at the counter of the Nikon Factory Service at "El Segundo".

I will bring with me the D800, 28-300, 105 f/2.8, 85 f/1.8 and 50 f/1.8 lenses and ask them to perform the following services:

- Fix the "Left AF issue" of the D800
- Fix the Front/Rear AF adjustment of all lenses to be sharp at 0 AF adjustment
- Clean the sensor of the D800, it has some oil spots after almost 8,000 photos

Do I need to do anything special prior to my visit, fill a form, call them in advance ?, do I have to bring pictures with some proof or I just have to explain them at the counter what are the reasons for my visit ?.

I will bring all the receipts, everything is less than 2 months old. Please advice, thanks a lot

Bernard

I would call ASAP and tell them exactly what you put in your post, and ask them. That way you can be as prepared as possible, and find out how long the service will take. You may need an appointment--this way you may be able to get one.

Hi

I live in Southern California, so it was much easier for me to drop off the camera.

I brought my D800, the warrantee card and the original receipt. I also brought two pictures showing how it focused with AF vs Live View. Take the cards and battery out before you drop it off.

I do not think you will talk to a technician - just a counter rep. My visit was very pleasent and quick, they will not fix it or diagnose it on the spot, but they will ship it back to you for free.

I did not bring lenses, I do not know how they will handle that.

Cheers

Andrew

They're in the process of moving so definitely call first. I asked my camera guy about it and he suggested sending it to Melville instead.

HIs point was not to send your gear to a service facility that's in the process of being relocated.

Not to change the subject, but does anyone know where they are moving to? I live about 10 minutes from the El Segundo facility and, while I have not needed to go there in quite awhile, it's nice to know they are there. They are in a large industrial park, so maybe they are moving to a different unit? Or are they moving out of the area?

Anyone know?

I have read on another forum (DP Review) that they are moving to Hollywood (to be closer to "the industry" or some such.).

Don't quote me on this.

If a lens has excessive front or back focus, does Nikon require that you send in the camera body with it?
