After running multiple tests on different systems (Mac OSX Lion, WinXP and Win7), I've found that transferring NEF files from the D800 via Transfer NX (versions BEFORE NX2) leads to corruption of the NEF file.

It can still be opened in Nikon Capture 2, but it cannot be saved as an NEF, nor can it be opened in Adobe Raw 6.7 (Photoshop CS5.1, Photoshop 6 beta, and Lightroom 4) - Once you've transferred via Nikon Transfer (versions 1-1.5.1 were tested), that file on your computer is corrupt.

I've started to see this issue show up on other forums, and I've tested it personally on the 2 machines listed above.
