"New 9-25mm f/2.8-5.0 lens"

Johannesburg, ZA

This could replace the 10-30mm f/3.5 – 5.6 VR lens? I like the extra speed and slightly better wide angle, although an inch longer (about the size of the 30-110mm). I wonder if we'll see this lens in the near future?

Patent filed on: August 31st, 2010 and released March 15th, 2012. Details are:

Focal length: 9 - 25.4mm (equivalent to approx. 24 - 68mm)
Aperture: 2.8 – 5.0
Lens length: 68 – 72mm
Zoom ratio: 2.8
Lens design: 12 elements in 10 groups
1 ED glass element
3 aspherical elements

Seems to be a bit of an overlap. Personally, I would hope first for a faster portrait lens 85-100ish FL, and a faster wide before they do anything else. Then again, Nikon has consistently shown that their interpretation of who the target audience is contradicts some of the wishes of the emerging and growing audience of enthusiasts.
