"Just received my 10mm pancake lens......."
Thu 12-Jan-12 08:38 PM by piniongear

Houston Texas, US

I put the 10mm pancake lens on the V1 and took a couple of offhand

shots to check the close focus and see how much I could blur the

background with the lens set at f2.8.

I am pleased with the clarity of the pics! See below.

I think I am going to like having the V1 with me wherever I may go.

It certainly is a small camera, yet it has a very good feel to it.

It somehow reminds me of holding my TI-35, but it is smaller.

The 10-35 lens that came as a kit is about a half inch longer and that makes the V1 a larger package.

I believe the small 10mm is going to be what I use with the V1 for the majority of the time.

I held the lens face about 10 inches from the subjects and snapped the shutter.

I am amazed how sharp the 10mm images are.
Makes a great "Walk About" "Pocket" camera combination.
I got mine with the instant rebate for a really good value.

Thank you, but I just walked up to the pottery and took a quick pic.
This little lens is unbelievable.
Actually the whole V1 camera is what is unbelievable.

I really believe Nikon has made this little rascal incorporating features that we are going to see on Nikon DSLR cameras of the future.

I know the V1 is not an DSLR.
I know in the short time I have had my V1 that there are some things I would like to be different.
I know the V1 is not perfect.

But having said all that, what is it about this little beauty that draws my interest like no other camera has done for some years now?
It is small yet is still feeling good to hold.

It can use Nikon lens from an SLR with the benefit of the FT1 with the 2.7 factor.
That is a much bigger deal to me than the day we went from a film SLR camera to a DX DSLR camera.

I just like this camera! Period!

Nice to see your positive comments on the V1.

I couldn't agree more. In our first Photo Professors podcast, this is the reason we devote time to a review - To open folks eyes to the possibilities of this small camera you can take with you everywhere!

I have mine for some time now - was amongst the first in Europe I believe, and I have a couple of comments ...

First - I love the little thingy - it is small - fits in a pocket, but only soso - I would prefer that the pancake lens would still be smaller, or have rounded shape to better fit the breast pocket, and come out without too much holding back.

Second - whenever the V1 disappears in the pocket, and I want to take it out for a snapshot, the mode selector dial is on some other position. I would apreciate if either it would be moved somewhat away from the edge, or a unlock button be fitted so it cannot be turned to easily.

Third - the cover on top left side (from behind) has gone missing already a couple of times - fortunately found it back every time, so now I got it fixed with duct tape - not a nice view, but efficient. Unbecoming for a Nikon !!! This needs to be rethought.

Fourth - It is so easy to loose the lens caps of these small 40.5 mm lenses - why not provide a cap keeper (hole in the cap and string) to fix it to the camera?

Fifth - Does the FT1 really need to be so large? Isn't there a smaller version for small lenses possible?

These are my 5 cents negative for this outstanding camera.

I won't say much about resolution, as I believe next version will have 16 or more MP

I won't say much about a better grip, as I have ordered it and it hopefully will arrive soon

I hope Nikon will develop more little (sizewise) prime lenses soon.

Keep clicking

I think you are using the wrong method (putting in your pocket) to carry the camera.

You should try using a 'Black Widow' made by the Spider Holster Company.

This is a belt clip and is the most comfortable and easiest way you could ever hope to carry a V1 or J1 camera.

And all at a very affordable price too.

We have a short discussion going on at the V1 site that shows this Black Widow.

Look under the title 'New Spider Holster'.

And here is a pic of mine..........

The red lever is pulled up to release the camera. The camera cannot fall out when you carry it. It will be the best $50 you will spend.

My 10mm is supposed to arrive today from Amazon (my V1 has yet to arrive - tomorrow hopefully - from B&H), but what I find most interesting about this image is the size of the GPS unit. It is much tinier than it appears in the online catalogs, perhaps because of a lack of a reference. It really tempts me to acquire one.
