I just unboxed my Nikon V1 and FT-1 Adapter and updated the firmware and couldn't wait to try out the 2.7 crop factor!

My Sigmonster, the Sigma 300-800mm f/5.6 has it's own focus motor, so I felt confident I could use the AF function of the V1. The Sigmonster does not have OS (Sigma's lens stabilization). The combination was very exciting. On tripod (Gitzo 1548), RRS BH-55 ballhead, Wimberly Sidekick, V1 electronic shutter triggered by Nikon's ML-L3. I do wish the V1 had Focus brackets to choose from. Since 'eyes in focus' is the goal in bird/animal photography, using only the center focus spot makes it kind of tough to fill the frame, but have possibly only the middle in focus...

NO postprocessing except to convert straight from NEF to JPEG using Adobe Camera Raw. QI probably low since I had to reduce twice to meet file size limit for uploading. Cloudy day in Washington state. All I can say is I'm super excited!! I'm bummed the Sigmonster is too big to air travel with, but I did recently buy a baby stroller for it...

1st photo: bird (Robin): Sigma 300-800mm @ 600mm (effective 1620mm), ISO 360, 1/60 sec, f/5.6

2nd photo: a 100% crop of the Robin.

3rd photo: mailboxes: Sigma 300-800 @ 800mm (effective 2160mm), ISO 450, 1/250 sec, f/7.1

4th photo: a 100% crop of the mailboxes

5th photo: Security sign across the road: Sigma 300-800mm @ 800mm (effective 2160), ISO 280, 1/60 sec, f/5.6

6th photo: a 100% crop of the security sign

7th photo: NOT the Nikon V1, but taken with the D5000 @ 35mm (effective 52mm) to show a 'normal view' shot from the same position as the V1-Sigmonster combo. In the VERY MIDDLE of this photo is the Robin I was shooting, and the Mailboxes are to the left of ~ 4 or 5 fence posts.

8th photo: NOT the Nikon V1, but again the D5000 @ 32mm (effective 48mm) and shot from the same position as the 5th photo, security sign, which is in the MIDDLE of this photo.

Equipment and technique are important,
Vision is supreme,
Passion the reason...
