"Nikon 1 Goodies starting show up in stock"

Tucson, US

Some things for the Nikon 1's are starting to get back into stock. I picked up a spare lens cap, the AS-N1000 adapter for the ME-1 microphone, and a circular polarizer.

SB-N5's are still scarce, but B&H now lists the FT-1 adapter at least (but not in stock yet).

The ME-1 works well on the V1.

and it's nice to finally have a polarizer for it!

Rick,

By "Me-1 works well" what do you mean? Relative to what? You get usage audio? Can hear and understand people talking when they are not talking directly tot the camera? Does it filter ambient sound well? Sorry, too many questions, I'll just buy one and see.

David

To answer both posts, I got the Hoya CP. Not multicoated like the B+W, but it was also only $31.

The ME-1 has very clear sound of the primary speaker. If you talk or cough, it will of course pick it up.

The ME-1 also has a switch to help reduce wind noise.

Looking forward to more V1 accessories to come. I have seen the Nikon demo versions of the LED video light, and a projector, all that interface onto the V1's hotshoe.

Cool stuff!

Would it make any sense to try using the ME-1 with a large AF-S lens (like the 70-200 f/2.8 VR)? or does the pick-up of the ME-1 mic not reach as far as the big AF-s lenses would? I could imagine that it would be a dynamic improvement over the mics on the camera body, but it might also be blocked by the hood/shade of the large lens.

Speaking of the internal mics, are they disabled by the ME-1?

I use an Azden SMX-10 directional Stereo Mic.
It does not pick up my breathing or any lens noise.
The internal mic is disabled when the external one is plugged in.
The Nikon shoe adapter works fine, but you can also use external brackets.

Roger,
I like the way the ME-1 has the knob that clamps it down to the hot shoe. Does the Azden offering do that? And when you say the "shoe adapter works fine" does that mean that it conducts through the shoe, or are you speaking strictly mechanically?

Thanks,

Tom
