"SD card recommendations"

St. Peter, US

If I shoot nef+jpg how many images do I get on a 16gb card. How many minutes of video? I've looked around for this info with no success. I'm trying to decide what size sdcards to get.

I am more curious about the speed needed.
I like being on the "cutting edge" of technology and almost bought a 64gb 90mbs card for $200 at B&H.
However, I had just run out of money buying the 10mm for an extra $149, and
the SanDisk 30mbs has been more than fast enough in my D5100 and D7000.

Of course the write speed to my computer would be enhanced, but
would the V1 actually benefit from that fast of a card?

Roger,

Page 160 of the J1 Reference lists Approved Memory Cards.
Class 6 or faster is recommended.
SDHC up to 32Gb and SDXC over 64Gb.

Howard,

That's interesting generic information, but IMO the Nikon documentation is a better source.
FWIW, they don't line up too well. It may be that the Nikon numbers are conservative.

Regards,
Bill

I use a 16gb sandisk extreme pro. U1 speed. 636 NEF+jpgs. I don't pay to much attention to the amount of HD recording and misplaced my manual at the moment but the display says
@1080p/30fps 20min/6.2k
@1080i/60fps 20min/2.5k
@ 720p/60fps 29min/8.3k
I have no idea what the k numbers are without my manual.

Anthony,

I find having the PDF more helpful than paper manuals.
See Nikon 1 J1 Reference Manual to download it.
