Just playing with the 28-300 3.5 on the V1. He was on table, trying to help me, that is a camera strap he just dropped.

Direct flash form the SB-N5, f5.6 and 1/60th At 300MM Matrix metering and auto focus.

Raw processed in capture one defaults

came out better than I would have guessed.

I like the detail in the feathers

Very nice feather detail! Thanks for sharing. One idea, you might try dialing in -1.7 EV flash compensation. It will let the flash blend in a little better with the available light. Or, if you want a quicker way to try out the idea put a white coffee filter in front of the flash and see what happens. The diffused light can be quite pleasing...
