"GP-N100 firmware update problems"

US

I have not been able to upgrade my GP-N100 to the version 1.01 firmware. The GP-N100 Utility (version 1.10), needed for the upgrade, does not work as it should. Launching the Utility does not bring up a menu, it just starts a process which is described as "uploading A-GPS file." This is not the firmware upgrade.

Has anybody else tried the upgrade, using a Mac?

Allan

Not with a Mac but with windows 7. Open utility, open function tab, open update firmware, open browse and select the update where it is located on your computer and open it then click update. It worked for me on windows 7. Not sure how a Mac works? Hope this helps.

You describe the way it is supposed to work. But for me, I get no menu, or "function tab." So I am left in the lurch.

Maybe uninstall and re install the utility and then follow this link:http://nikonasia-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7392/~/gp-n100%3A-updating-the-firmware-for-gp-n100-(macintosh)

I tried that, but just to make sure, I tried it again. This time I downloaded the utility from Safari instead of Firefox to see if the browser could make a difference. The utility I downloaded is GP-N100 Utility.app, version 1.10.

That made no difference. After I hooked up my GP-N100 to the computer, I launched the utility, which brings up a box having only a START button (and nothing else). This initiates two procedures:

(1) Getting A-GPS file
(2) Uploading A-GPS file

After which all I can do is click on OK, and the box disappears. No box ever comes up with with a menu to choose between Function or Help, as the online instructions show.

I guess you'll have to contact Nikon support to figure it out. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck!

I talked to a Nikon customer service rep for twenty minutes, and he never knew what I was talking about. He did not know that the GP-N100 was a clip-on accessory for the V1.

He initiated a "ticket" on my problem, which resulted in an email giving me directions on how to do the upgrade. I replied to that, saying I already knew what I was supposed to do.

I need to talk to a Nikon representative who knows about the GP-N100. The upgrade is important, since it results in erroneous time set on my camera clock.

If the utility window doesn't look like this and have the function drop down menu then it must be a software install incompatibility problem.

The mystery is solved!

A suggestion on this thread http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1058&thread=41615241 directed me to look for the Function menu on the Apple toolbar, where it is located.

I have now successfully upgraded to firmware version 1.01. Now I can have he GPS set the system clock, which will not fall out of synch.
