"How to interpret the firmware version numbers?"

Novi, US

I just did the firmware update on my D7000. When I finish, I go to the firmware version and it says:

A: 1.02
B: 1.02
L: 1.002

So I'm trying to understand why there are three numbers, and what does the third number mean?

I have Thom Hogan's book and was hoping that would explain it for me. It doesn't. The upgrade instructions on the NIkon site don't explain it, either.

This isn't exactly a make or break issue, but if anyone knows the answer I'd sure like to know what it is. Quite honestly, the L number being different from A and B doesn't make me feel too good.

Not to worry, I believe the L: 1.002 is the lens database for distortion control.

It has something to do with the lenses.

The L firmware is suppose to “allow more sophisticated distance integration” provided by current and future Nikon lenses.
