"Where can I get a printable D7000 Manual"

Sydney, AU

I bought my camera from from overseas and didn't get a manual. That's the grey price you pay I guess! Does anyone know where I can get a printable manual? I have the non-printable.

Cheers!

The D7000 manuals can be downloaded here:

http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17008

But it looks like you will need a North American serial number to download the printable version.

To protect against Copyright Infringement, Nikon offers two versions of our current product manuals. A fully printable manual for existing owners (which requires a valid, North American, Nikon camera serial number and registration to download) and a non-printable version for others (no serial number required). If you need an account, click here.

I'm afraid doing that would infringe Nikon's copyright, and it's not something that Nikonians can endorse

My D7K is a South Korean model sold to me under the guise of being a USA version by Best Price Electronics in Brooklyn, NY. Fortunately, it works like a charm, so I'm keeping it, but I can't say I appreciated their shenanigans. My camera also came with an Owners Manual in English, too, by the way.

Nonetheless, I was able to download the printable Nikon manual using my camera's serial number from Nikon's web site. I figured I had nothing to lose by trying...and it worked! Go figure.

My D7000 was from China so I also assumed it would be useless trying to download the manual via the USA site. However I will try it now you say it worked for you!

I think I remember downloading a copy of the manual before the camera came out? There was a link in a thread here at Nikonian's. Maybe the kink is still active?

I have both a Spanish and English version of the manual. Since my last name is Spanish, maybe Nikon thought I was Hispanic? LOL I know I get Spanish emails from Microsoft.

Having established User ID at Nikon USA, you can download any printable manual. You may need to buy at least one Nikon product imported to the USA.

I have the printable manual for my D7k on the Nikon support site.

When I try to print page 13 (the Command Dials), I select "pages", enter 13, then "apply", then "print" - and then page xi is printed?

It will not allow me to select "selection" or "Current page".
Any ideas how to print out only the page I need? TIA

Also as a sidecar, you notice that I want my setup info below in small print (I have seen that done here on Nikonians), but when I added the HTML to my signature, as you can see, it just copies the code and does not implement it?

The print driver sees the cover of the manual as page #1 and then counts each page in order (not how they are numbered on the page) so page 13 of the manual is actually the 33rd page of the PDF document.

The menu bar of Acrobat shows you both the labeled page number and the actual page number as shown in the screen capture below.

Looking at the page source code, it is all in CSS so regular HTML is probably striped out or needs to be in a standard form that is more strict that your size script. I just tried adding a <font attribute to my signature to see if it is striped out.

Edit: It did not work....time to ask the web master for the forum.

The best way is to download the non-printable version from Nikon and just read it on the computer. But for a more comprehensive manual, order the manual from Thom. It's got everything and more that you'd ever want to know about the D7000.

Set the View percentage in your PDF reader to full screen. Then hit the Print Screen key on your Windows keyboard or use screen capture in OS X. A copy of the screen will be saved to the clipboard. Load your favorite editing software or wordprocessor, then paste the screen capture into a new document. Voila.

It's not working because you're using standard HTML. That's not what this message board uses for internal HTML coding. This board uses brackets [] instead of gt/lt symbols <>. There is an HTML Reference link which appears to the left of the edit box every time you Reply to a message. Click it and read it.

Unless the creator of the PDF performs some special editing, the page number is the physical page number and not the logical numbering shown on the page. If you have a full version of Acrobat and not the free Adobe Reader, you can renumber the page navigation of the viewed PDF to match the page numbering of the PDF. If you note the difference between labeled page 1 and the physical page number, you can adjust the goto page as needed.

Nikon also does not always include 'bookmarks' within their PDF. These navigational aids can be displayed on the left of the PDF pages.

Nikon does not provide links from the TOC, Table of Contents, nor link the index entires to the content within the PDF.

And Nikon does not add any Accessibility features to the PDF.

In conclusion, not only do the manuals have some poorly written passages, Nikon also does not avail itself of adding end user navigational aids.

In a conversation with a Nikon marketing rep a couple of years ago (Strategic Ampersand represented Nikon in Canada at the time) and in a separate conversation at Nikon Canada in Missisauga, Ontario, I raised the same point. I asked about what specifically it might be that was preventing Nikon from publishing a hyperlinked PDF and/or online HTML version of its DSLR manuals? I had been discussing hyperlinking both the TOC and the index. The response I received in both conversations was basically a blank stare followed by a non-commital shrug.

Until Nikon Japan makes it so, it will not be so. Frankly, a Japanese high school kid knowing no other language aside from Japanese, could easily sit down and hyperlink all the manuals in all languages. You don't have to know the language of each localized version. All you need to be able to recognize are Western Arabic/European page numerals and basic letter forms using a word search tool. One or two days per manual. Some high school kid could make him/herself a couple of thousand bucks, and Nikon DSLR users the world over would hail the kid as a hero of digital photography. And some of us would stop being ticked off at Nikon about this issue.

I am not surprised, as very few corporate type understand digital media and how poorly it is implemented in the work place.

Now with e-Reader devices there is a variation of the PDF called the epub. Many of these readers can read PDF files, but they lose a lot of the navigation features.

Many Japanese high school students know more than one language, and modifying the PDFs does not require any programing. I fix the manuals for the devices I have and carry them on a USB drive and now on a Nook. So I can have a copy in my kit of the manuals including the less used devices. I now have to look into some freeware to convert the PDF to the Adobe epub.

Darrel Young and Rocky Nook Press offer their Nikon books in PDF and epub formats besides the paper back format.
