I just received a SIGMA 24mm 1.8 lens and to my shagrin I noted that it does not work with my D7000 body. It does work with my D80s and my wife's D90. A quick search of Nikonian (which I should have done first) shows that the SIGMA 105mm Macro lens had the exact same symptoms. Our 10 - 20 SIGMA works as it should. The lens has to go back for an upgrade to it's internal software. Just a lesson learned, check with Nikonian first before you buy.

The SIGMA 24mm was a compromise since the SIGMA 20mm was going to be a long time coming thanks to supply issues. Too impatient for that, I decided to return it and get the 20mm Nikon f/2.8 instead. The balance was great when I had the 24mm on the D7000. I have the additional battery pack on the body (I like the additional shutter and control dials) so that may not be a good comparison with other's D7000s.

Just a side note on checking Nikonians first before buying; while a good idea it does not guarantee an outcome.
Just before buying my D7000 I read a thread here about someone having trouble with their Tamron 90mm Macro screw drive version not AF with their D7000 and having to send it away for re-chipping. Having that lens I was wondering if I would run into the same issue. Turns out I didn’t, and the lens works great on my D7000.
