Hello, I recently purchased my first DSLR camera and I have a lot of learning to do. I just purchased a new lens the 50mm 1.8f and what I noticed it seems to not go on the camera near as smoothly as the 18-105 and 70-300 that I purchased with the camera.
Is this normal or is something wrong with the lens I purchased? It just seems much more snug when I'm twisting it on and just doesn't go on as smoothly??

My NEW AFS 50mm F1.4 G does the same thing. Seems little harder to mount that any other lens. I keep looking to see a wear pattern form or if there is cross threading kind of stuff happening.
I have been temped to use a black sharpie on the mount points to see where it is dragging. Then maybe some fine lapping tape/emory cloth might be able to smooth it out. Kinda afraid to sand on a lens though!

Welcome to the community! For whatever reason, several people have noticed that the 50mm seems to be a "tight" fit. My 50mm f/1.4 was tighter than my other lens. I have not noticed any problems but should you be concerned you could call Nikon USA @ 1-800-645-6687 and address this issue. Good luck.

Now that you mention it... mine does offer more resistance in the last few degrees of turning, but its barrel is significantly smaller than my other lenses. Lack of leverage, perhaps? It feels tight and solid going on, though, and is an absolute blast. I bought it as an afterthought and it's taught me a lot. It's not often I feel like I underpaid for something.
