"Thom's D7000 guide shipped?"

US

I ordered Thom's D7000 guide a while back and am wondering if the first round has been shipped - his web site says that "Orders placed today will not ship until at least March 16th!" and that the first printing is now sold out, but doesn't indicate whether any have shipped.

Do you have yours in hand yet? Just wondering.

I may be incorrect but I believe 3/9 was the date for shipment to begin.

So far it is great. As with all his work, it is quite straightforward and goes into a lot of detail. The cd comes with a small notebook (take into field, etc.) that covers the really important details. The electronic version gives you a chance to burn a copy for safe-keeping and doesn't cost as much as a printed version. This ebook will rock you!

John

Can you comment on the amount or quality of advice on:
- shooting video. I really am keen on advice in this area.
- strategies for configuring U1/U2?

Thom is usually quite thorough so I am hoping he has covered these areas?

Thanks in advance,

Hello Steve,

As mentioned, just got the ebook. The "concise reference book" that comes with the cd is 142 pages. Shooting video has about 20 pages and he states he will cover that in detail along with the U1 and U2 settings (about 4 pages). The U1/U2 doesn't cover perhaps as much as some would hope but he does give a few suggestions. Basically, pick your settings and save. Lot of pages (820)with the first hundred ninety five going into the camera and explanations of words, etc. Camera Setup begins on 197 thru 225; Camera and Shooting Controls p.228 to p.530; Custom Settings p.531 to 596; Using Flash p.598 to 682. He also has a section on PP along with additional info within the cd. Hopes this helps.

Regards,
John

Quoted from byThom.com

D7000 Guides began shipping on March 9th to those that pre-ordered them. About half the outstanding pre-orders have shipped, and virtually all of the remainder will ship by next Wednesday. We're shipping on a first in, first out process, so those of you who ordered first will get your copy first. Shipping emails are sent to the email address used when you ordered as items get packed.

Hope this helps
Chris

I received the email yesterday afternoon on my phone, while at a convention. When I got home last night, the book had arrived.

OMGosh! Two books, one spiral bound and one 1 1/2 inches thick plus a CD. I thumbed through the spiral bound book a bit and it looked impressive.

I would say, I have gotten my money's worth.

There is a problem. Here is the note Thom sent after I gave him the PayPal ID number.

"My apologies for the delay in your order. PayPal did not forward a number of orders to me, it appears, and because they don’t show up in any of the ways that I can normally query their database (download, GaragePay, etc.), I don’t know about them until someone tells me and can provide the receipt or transaction ID, as you did. Unfortunately, I have to do these lookups one at a time, and it takes me significant time to clear them."

So, I suggest you send him an email if you still have not received it.

So is the only difference between the $39.99 and $69.99 package the bound book?
I assume for $39.99 you get the e edition of the bound book and the spiral bound "To Go" abbreviated version of the book. Is this correct?

Yes, I did check his site first but wanted to double check with someone who had received theirs to make sure I understood it correctly.

Funny thing. Got an email from Thom directly that they would likely be shipped on the 31st now.

Hmmmm? I guess I will go cruise Borders for something.

Shoot, shoot and shoot some more!

I ordered mine on Feb 18, 2011 and I am still waiting.

I did contact Thom on the 23rd of march and he indicated as some of you have that he had shipping/paypal problems.

I paid via paypal so 45 days from the date of the transaction to file a dispute if i needed to...but I guess that window is quickly closing.

I know Thom will make it right but wow that's a long time to wait.
**Edit**

I ordered on March 19 and sent an email on March 23 to ask Thom to confirm if he got my order. I got this reply:

"The problem only applies to orders made during a few hours on 2/17 and 2/18. Your order will go out when originally planned.

...Just not sure what date "originally planned" might refer to, although the web site does say to allow 4 weeks for delivery. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Oh really?

I am now wondering about cancelling my order. I order the book in the middle of last month and still don't have it. I was emailed that it would ship on 3/31.

So Monday and again today emailed to get a status on my order. The response was "Orders will resume shipping on 4/13." You would think an email would go out to those folks who expected it to ship on 3/31.

Waiting a month or more for a book seems ridiculous especially since my payment was made via PayPal at the time of order.

I guess I will order someone else's book now.

Shoot, shoot and shoot some more!

I have finally received my copy and having looked at the material quickly last nite I would have to say that it is very extensive. You will not find that kind of info in most of the books out today, worth the wait IMHO. But dissapointing to have had to wait that long.
