"Pelican BIF"

US

I have been trying to capture the pelicans flying by in La Jolla for a year or so. First with my D-90 and now while just learning my D-7000. I have been using the Tamron 18-270 VC zoom and with the D-7000 have used the piezo design.

This shot was at 9:00 AM with the great light gone but not yet too bright. The image was shot with:

f 6.3 at 1/1000sec
ISO 320, matrix metering,
no camera sharpness
focal length of lens 405 mm, bird 19 meters from camera

The second birds were at the same settings.

Lots of fun

David

Those are really nice shots David. You should post these in the Wildlife forum. Those guys would enjoy seeing them.

I especially love the shots with the mouth open and the pouch hanging. Being from Louisiana, I often see pelicans. Rarely do I see them with the pouch hanging.
