"Should I just wait for the Next Batch"
Tue 18-Jan-11 03:12 PM by SurfHunter

I've been searching and searching for the D7000, and like everywhere
else "Out Of Stock".

So I call local Ritz store.. Orlando,Fl and the Guy tells me that
They do have them in stock... In their local Whse. and that it takes
4 days to recieve, or I can overnight it for $25.

Now, Should I just hold off until Nikon comes out with the Next Batch, to see if they fixed the Pixel issue?

Also, being a new user to such a Dslr. how does one know how to Completely look over the camera in order to find any defects?

Thanks.

Nikon have already "fixed" the video bright pixel issue, with a downloadable firmware update. Whilst the latest firmware might come pre-installed in the near future, it's no problem to install it yourself.

I see no reason to wait, if you can get one now at an acceptable price

OK, I just ordered a D7000 from Amazon (not in stock, will be delivered later). But I am unaware of the "pixel issue". What is it?

Welcome to the community,

If your Ritz store is like most of them, they will gladly show you the camera. Another side benefit from buying from them is that they offer their customers free camera classes that can be found on www.ritzcamerauniversity.com. Just go to that site and enter a location near you and it will show the course outline. Good luck.

Yeah, But BestBuy only sells Kits.

I'd like to buy the body only and then apply the difference to either
a 35mm f/1.8... or flash or apply it to a 18-200mm

would you say that those would be decent lens for a beginner?

really there is nothing wrong with a 18-105 "KIT" lens, they really do a good job if you do not want to "WAIT" for a body only. I jumped at the chance to get the kit one now from Best Buy after searching the local area for a body only and not finding any in Tampa, I am extremely pleased with it,

Hi:

I also ordered the D7000 kit, today; I'll get it tomorrow. It was only ~ $30 extra for the one-day air (am) option. I wrote in more detail in my blog: http://www.hektorsblog.net/2011/01/nikon-d7000-kit.html.

Best regards,

Hektor

Update: I just got the D7000 kit and the battery is charging. I'm so glad that I got the kit. The 18-105 VR is much better built than I expected - made in Thailand as with the D7000. I needed a light mid-range zoom with VR and there is nothing made by Nikon or a third party that interests me. Therefore, I have the 18-105 until a new zoom is released, which might take a year, two, or more. The 18-105 seems to be a great purchase (I do not know about optically, yet.) One thing I know, the reviewers are out to lunch. What they expect of a zoom with VR for $300? The Summilux 21mm or the 14-24?

Once you've used the 18-105mm, perhaps you'd like to share your impressions over in our Nikkor Lenses Forum, rather than here.

Thanks!

I was able to get the body only at Service Photo in Maryland: http://www.servicephoto.com. I didn't know about this place until I read about it in another Nikonians post. I suggest calling them rather than trying to order online and tell them what you want. They were extremely helpful and easy to work work with excellent packaging and fast service. I've had my D7000 since the first week in January and really love it.

I just picked mine up from my local Ritz yesterday (Monday). I ordered it the Thursday before so I didn't have to wait long. They let me open it up and gave me a charged battery so I can power it up and make sure it was all good. Even let me use a couple of lenses. I normally don't care that much for Ritz... at least their store fronts, but in this case I had a very good experience.

Roberts Camera in Indiana has them. Nikon has allowed them to remove the lens from the kit and sell just the body. I ordered one yesterday.

I ordered mine last night from Milford Photo in Connecticut. Shipping today. There are bodies out there you just have to poke around a little bit among the independent shops.
