"On "Wait-List" for D7000 body-only"

Perkiomenville, US

When I received an email reply from Nikon last week that they were shipping "body-only", I ordered the D7000 from Amazon. It's listed as "temporarily out of stock".
Has anyone received a body recently who was on a wait-list? I'm just curious if my new camera might come sooner rather than later.
Thanks!

Jodie

I ordered a D7000 Body only today. 1,199.95 plus shipping. It is being shipped today! They have Kits available and will break the kit up if necessary. They expect a shipment from Nikon later today which may include some Body-only. Now if I can just turn off the snow storm that is expected to hit New Jersey this evening...

I ordered my body only last weekend from Samy's Camera, listed online at $1199. It showed up three business days later via free Fedex. I paid the sales tax because I think Samy is out here in California, but I was shocked at how fast it got here, especially after staring at "not in stock" notices for weeks on Amazon and Adorama. If you are still on hold, you might want to think about contacting them. The college I work for has used them quite a bit in the past and has never had a problem.

I'm also waitlisted on Amazon. I imagine there will be a big shipment from Nikon this month, now that the Christmas rush is over.

Update - Just bought one at Roberts. They sold out of body only kits VERY quickly, but kindly removed the kit lens from one of their kits and sold me one for the body only price. Great folks to do business with.

You need to check with smaller Specialist Photo Shops, Nikon look after them very well, I got my body only in November from New York Camera and Video in PA, a truly great local store. I was wait listed for a week and paid the same price Amazon were selling for.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I'll keep my order in with Amazon right now. When I ordered the D7000 I also purchased a Macro lens they were promoting for $100 off. The lens should come today....Yahoo!!

I was on a wait list for a week. Got my D7000 yesterday. Stewart's Photo right here locally (Anchorage, Alaska). It appears Nikon tries to service their network of dealers by treating them equally. I was number 3 on the list, I believe they received just 3. (Lucky me.) I can't imagine waiting for the Amazon List must be lots of people waiting.

In the UK if you want no more than 10% discount (£999 with 20% tax) the wait is over.
If you want 15% discount (I do) at £950 there is a queue.

Photography is a bit like archery. A technically better camera, lens or arrow may not hit the target as often as it could if the photographer or archer does not practice enough.

You are way more patient then I would be... WOW! Nikon is going to come out with something new before you even get the D7K... It's a great camera! Try a local Authorized Nikon Dealer. I waited just one week for mine. Just a suggestion.

Called Adorama last week...the customer service rep.was a sweetheart...I asked her, where am I on the wait list...

She replied....you are #1057....ugggh.

Went to Bestbuy and bought the kit....didn't need the 18-105mm but, daughter is getting a nice used D60 with a good lense

Used the AMEX Platinum and got an extra year warranty and 90 days in case she gets dropped...

Dino,
When did you place your original order with Adorama? I have considered going elsewhere but I have two lenses on order with the body (not a kit) and to get the same elsewhere it looks like I would pay $300 more and I haven't yet found another supplier that has the body and the lenses in stock. Everytime I contact Adorama they refuse to even speculate on delivery time. This is my first order with them and it has not been a very good experience. Surely they know when they ship a body out when that body was originally ordered - so they know approximately what the delay is from order to delivery. They just will not tell! I'm still waiting but getting more and more unhappy as the days roll on. Now 66 days and counting.

It appears Adorama’s response changes from caller to caller. I called last week to inquire where my order is on the wait list. I was told the list is not enumerated, and all she could tell me is that they have just completed fulfilling November orders. Since my order was placed in late December, she estimated I have at least another month to wait. Your 66 day wait would put our order back in the mid-November timeframe. Apparently, all November orders have not been fulfilled as I was told.

To increase my chances of receiving one sooner than later, I also placed an order with Amazon.com last week. However, after reading these posts, I’m not optimistic that either online retailer will meet my expectation. Amazon’s wait list situation is probably similar to Adorama’s. I guess it’s time for me to begin a search with local retailers.

The truth is, reps are not permitted to ever give out either the number of back-orders or an individual's position on the b/o list.

As I'm an independent consultant, I don't actually have access to the b/o list at all! I'm told only that there is a 2-month back log - 'though from what I've been reading over the past couple of days it's actually longer than that.

I've heard of a number of people picking these units up immediately from Roberts, Samy's, Best Buy online, Ritz and Camera World.

Sincerely

After waiting 70+ days my D7000 body and two lenses are finally being shipped by Adorama. Their policy of not giving out any shipping date estimates had caused me to eliminate them from any future orders. In fact, I decided to order a D7000 kit so that my significant other would be working with the same camera that I'm using - it's so much easier than learning two cameras. I tried to order from Samy's but they would only ship to my billing address and I am not there right now so I ordered the second D7000 from Service Photo. Both cameras should be here next week! It's about time.

Update: I had a very friendly conversation with Burke from Service Photo today. Understandably he was calling to verify my unusual dual address situation (billing in Colorado, shipping to Texas). The D7000 that I ordered yesterday is shipping today with arrival expected next week. Great service, no hassles. Service Photo will get my business in the future.

First D7000 arrived today. Second one is due in tomorrow. Unfortunately the weather here is not cooperating so we'll be below decks learning our new cameras for a while. A note that may save others some time and frustration: The quick start guide for the D7000 states that there is a "Registration Card" included with U.S.A. cameras only. I spent a lot of time looking for mine. I thought I had lost it or that it had not been included in the package. I searched through the packing material several times. Finally I checked with NIKON. They said that these cards are no longer provided with digital cameras! So, don't panic and don't waste time looking for it.

Dave,

Good to see people getting their cameras. These early times with any new Nikon body can be a frustrating period while supply struggles to meet demand. It is going to be interesting to see just how much of a bestseller the D7000 is going to be. I hope for the health of Nikon it will sell as well or better than the D90. Might be a tough one to beat because the D90 stubbornly held a very good sales record even long after its on-paper features were exceeded by competitors. I wonder what the best-selling Nikon dslr has been to date?

Best regards, SteveK

Hi Steve:

I'm really happy with the D7000 especially with the DX 35mm 1.8 mounted on the camera. It is a flashback to my film days of the A1 and AE1 with the 50mm 1.4 - similar weight and size.

I ordered my D7000 body from Amazon a few days ago when the price was $1199 for a very brief period. It's since shot up to above retail. So sounds like Amazon will sell them directly to you (for retail) but other merchants bump the price upwards. Man I can't wait to get mine, I bought the Nikkor 16-85mm lens for my first lens. Here is what Amazon told me:

Hello,

I checked our website, and it looks like "Nikon D7000 16.2MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR with 3.0-Inch LCD (Body Only)" is listed as a special order item. Unfortunately, our supplier hasn't updated us as to when we're able to ship the camera. We'll send you an e-mail once we get an availability update. It is, however, available via several Amazon Marketplace seller which is probably what you're seeing now on the website.

As for the item's price; don't worry because the price when you placed the order which is $1,199.95 will be the same price we'll charge on your card when your order's shipped.

When Amazon.com isn't offering an item, Amazon Merchants and Marketplace sellers may list the item at any price they'd like. If an item is rare or collectible, sellers may decide on a price that's higher than the former Amazon.com price or the original retail price.

I purchased a D7000 with the kit lens at Best Buy a month ago. A week after I purchased it, it started having mechanical errors. So I returned it and decided to get a refund instead of exchanging it. I just wanted to do some research to make sure that the mechanical problems that I was having wasn't a common thing.

So I realized that although the 18-105 kit lens is fine, I was kind of bored with it and wanted a prime lens after using my brother-in-law's 35mm 1.8G lens. So I waited and waited and finally, Amazon briefly put the D7000 body only back up so I ordered it and was put on a wait list. It seems like I won't be getting the camera any time soon, but I am willing to wait because I don't want to pay an extra $300 for a lens that I'm not too crazy about. However, I am supposed to receive my 35mm 1.8G lens in about a week, so I'm pretty excited about that. It's crazy how every store seems to have the D7000 kit, but no one has the body only package.

I pick mine up to-day - after a 3 week wait to get one with a 15% discount.

I'm still waiting on Adorama too. Placed my order towards the end of November. I am about ready to pull the plug and buy it from some one who has it in stock. I wasn't in a big hurry. But since their price is the same as every other reputable dealer I think it doesn't make sense to keep waiting for them. My local shop sent out a note yesterday that they have body only's in stock but I would prefer not to pay the sales tax. However I do like their level of service.

As I have said before I think Nikon really blew it with this launch by putting way too many of them in kits instead of body-only. They should have had a better idea that the buyers for this would be people already shooting Nikon DSLR who wouldn't need or want the kit.

I was on a waitlist with Adorama for a body since late December. After learning I would likely have to wait at least another month, I placed an order with a local camera shop. The camera arrived less than one week after ordering it, and I picked it up on my way home from work today. I too wanted to avoid paying sales tax but I could not wait any longer to get my hands on the camera.

Hi Glenn:

I really do not know what is going on in the US with the D7K kit and especially the body only option. B&H is not even taking pre-orders for either one. I decided to go for the kit, because it was becoming a matter of principle. I had a used copy the AF-S 24-85 f/3.5-f/4.5 (condition = 9 - $270) coming from B&H. Before I placed the order from J&R, I called B&H. The sales rep was rather rude, curt, and began to scream: “I do not have the body only or kit. I have no idea when I’ll get it. I just told you that I do not have either one. Period.” I did not get an estimate or nothing, just “check the website daily.” I bid him farewell and hanged up.

I have no idea why the Rep flew off the handle, because I was very nice to him. Maybe, every other call was about the D7K. I just do not get excited. The only complaint from my friends is that I have “ice flowing through my veins.” To me, every problem in life has a solution except death, which is final. Therefore, solution: I ordered the kit from J&R (I already have) and B&H not only lost the sale of the D7K, but also the AF-S 24-85, which I returned. In all honesty, I think they could not care less.

What's going on is that Nikon USA is unable to meet demands and fill all orders from US retailers. We're as eager as anyone to get this exciting camera in stock.

I am sorry for this uncharacteristic incident and would like to investigate it. We record conversations with sales associates. If you can tell me the date & approx time you called and the number you called from (yours, not ours) I can learn more and if necessary take steps internally to help our sales associate become more effective. Thanks.

Could I ask that you and Hektor take this issue off-line, so we can limit the thread to news of where and when D7000 bodies might be available?

I guess my issue is that the kit is relatively easy to come by, but the body-only has been exceptionally difficult from the start and continues to be a problem.

I canceled my order with Adorama last night and bought it from Milford Photo instead. Just got an email from them that it is shipping out today.

I have an order out on Amazon, and after reading this post I decided to visit a popular local camera shop. I found out that they are getting some D7000's in stock in less than a week and that they can put one aside for me. I'm keeping both orders out there, but I'm pretty sure I'll be picking my D7000 body up at my local camera shop. I just can't wait another month or more for my camera. The uncertainty is the worst part. I would prefer not to pay sales tax, but I would prefer not to wait forever even more. Plus, it is nice to support my local small camera shop.

Hi Jesus:

I think that you hit the nail on the head; the uncertainty is the worst part.

My D7000, from J&R, came already loaded with the 1.01 firmware upgrade. I do not know if this is significant or not.

@nikonrumors posted that http://www.proshopforphotographers.com/ had some D7000 bodies in stock late last week. I called them and they said they just received a shipment from Nikon so I ordered one (and cancelled my Amazon.com order). It was the retail $1199 price. Got it yesterday and it's awesome, works perfectly. It also has the latest firmware update 1.01 already so Nikon appears to be shipping D7000's to market with the latest firmware.

Man! These D7000 bodies sell out fast! Yesterday I actually saw that Amazon had these camera bodies in stock and available for shipment. But of course they are gone now! I actually thought for a second that the D7000 was starting to become more available. I guess I was wrong. Luckily I ordered the D7000 body on January 18 from Amazon and it is in the process of shipping. I had also ordered one from my local camera shop, but I decided to cancel the order one day before Amazon informed me that they were going to ship my camera in a week. Good timing!
