"Lightroom3 tethered support for Nikon D7000"
Mon 03-Jan-11 11:24 PM by waxart

Vallejo, US

Having discovered that Lightroom 3 provides tethered support for Nikon cameras, I have just purchased it (the software) only to find that my D7000 isn't yet supported. Anyone know when and if this will happen? I've tried contacting Adobe, but as usual with no response.

I would have thought they would have added this support before finalizing version 3.3. Not to be.

Adobe is hard to figure sometimes.

In the meantime if you absolutely have to shoot tethered apparently DIYPhotoBits works with the d7000: http://www.diyphotobits.com/download-diyphotobitscom-camera-control/

It certainly does not have the degree of control as Nikon's Camera Control, still it is better than nothing (if you really need to shoot tethered).

Thanks, Jason. I can continue shooting with a very old version of Camera Control Pro on my old laptop for now, although it's very slow. Yes, I absolutely need to shoot tethered when doing product shots or studio portraits - that little LCD on camera can easily fool me into believing I've got the focus and lighting just right. Almost everything looks good on the LCD!

When my D7K arrived, one of the first things I did was to hook it up to the computer and load Lightroom 3 so I could experience tethered shooting. So I was quite disappointed when it didn't work.

I tried the freeware Jason suggested, but it didn't really work for me. I get a user interface on my computer and it is aware of my camera settings, and I can engage the shutter, but I see no images of any kind on my computer screen nor can I change any of the camera settings via the computer user interface.

I look forward to Lightroom supporting this feature.

Have you updated your Lightroom yet? I just loaded it last night and it looks like there was an update for D7000. I am curious as I am in the market for a D7000 (If I can find one that is not above retail, I refuse to pay the snipers).

I only just got it, so it's up to date and no support for tethering the D7000.

Try this one...I was just sent a copy to review...Specs and features look impressive (teathered, interval, hdr bracketing that's not camera dependent) and of course the ability to save to a LR "watch" folder so your images do end up in your catalogue...noticed it was just updated to include the D7000

Make sure you download the 1.1.1b1 version on the left of the main screen if you want D7000 support along with everything else it does...

http://www.sofortbildapp.com/

It's "donation" ware so if you like it and use it be nice to the developer...

Have fun...Ric

Yes indeed, works well. I hope it does a bit more than what initially meets the eye, but yes, we do have tethered shooting now.

My 3.4 doesn't seem to recognize the D7000 attached to the PC. Any trick to get this gooing?

1. Good content, good aesthetics and good tecnique. On that order.
2. Light is more important than glass and pixels.
3. In the digital photography process, software is as important as gear.

I don't know if this helps anything but I too was having problems getting this to work. Turned out I wasn't actually using Lightroom 3.4 after it installed the update. I was still running Lightroom 3.3.
Now that I'm actually running the new version of Lightroom 3.4 tethering with the D7000 finally works.
