"Back focus on 12-24/d7000"

My 12-24 Nikkor was back focusing quite significantly on my d7000. I was fearing a general problem with the camera, so I also did tests with 50mm, 18-70mm and 17-55mm Nikkors. These all focused well under the same conditions (I used a focus test chart set at 45degrees). The 12-24 finally gave acceptable results by fine tuning to -7.

So my question is should this lens for go a tune up, or is -7 an ok fine tune setting?

As an aside, I was wondering why one lens would have an issue and not the others? Are all the AF lens programmed into the camera at the factory?

First, I would suggest re-doing your tests with a flat target parallel to the camera sensor.

I had a back focus problem too with my D7K and my Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 - I switched to AF-S (Single point) and now it does GREAT!
