"Using AI lenses with a D7000"

Tucson AZ, US

I am planning to upgrade my D40 to a D7000. All my lenses are either AI or AI'd. I have read that "data for up to 9 such lenses can be programmed into the D7000." I'm curious how the programming is physically done. Do I sit down once with my new camera and program the data for each of my lenses, then later when I'm ready to shoot, select the lens I'm using from a menu? Exactly what data do I program for each lens? Just the focal length? The focal length and the maximum aperture? What about the programming for a zoom lens, or a Micro Nikkor?

Finally, is the programmed data (as well as the actual aperture) saved in the EXIF metadata?

You need to enter both focal length and maximum aperture for each lens. detail see Nikon D7000 manual page #159.
Hope this helps.

Thanks! I downloaded the D7000 manual and found a good explanation there.

It stores 5 Lenses (or settings) and you can bind it to the func button press it and rotate the dial. Not handy for primes really. But quite handy for zooms.
