"Sports with the D7100 (Soccer)"

Houston, US

I got the D7100 to shoot sports along with my D800 and I am so impressed with every aspect of its performance including IQ, AF and ISO performance. After attaching the grip my long lenses balance very nicely on it.

Some people are annoyed by the small buffer, however, to me it's a non-issue since I only use bursts sparingly and if I use 12-bit or JPEG the buffer is deep enough. I love the U1 & U2 settings as well. I can't believe in 1.3 crop mode my 200 f/2 gives me a reach of 400mm at f/2 with 15mp, that's phenomenal!

Here's some images I'd like to share with you. Shot with Sigma 120-300 2.8 OS Sport & Nikon 300 2.8 AF-S II.

Superb shots Hussain; well done. I also have the D7100 and love the camera. It certainly does everything I need it to do.

I agree! I'm usually using my D7100 with a 70-200 f/4 (day) or f/2.8 (night), and it gives really nice results.

Really great soccer photos here.
@Jon: Do you really have one 70-200 for day and one 70-200mm for night?

>@Jon: Do you really have one 70-200 for day and one 70-200mm for night?

Yes, pretty much. When I bought the D7100, Nikon USA was having a lens discount sale when purchased with a camera, so I bought the 70-200/4 along with the D7100. I wanted to lighten my load during day games, when I generally have a 400/2.8 and D3 on a monopod and the D7100 and 70-200 on a shoulder strap.

But I still need the f/2.8 version for night games and indoor sports. The 70-200 is the essential lens for sports, in my opinion. You can shoot almost any sport with just a 70-200 if you have to, although other lenses certainly add shots you wouldn't get with the 70-200. Having two 70-200 lenses allows one to be a backup for the other should it be needed.
