"D7000 Err Message"

Ferndale, US

Good evening Nikonians

Well what an exciting day...I picked up my new in box D7000, an early Xmas gift to myself. I rushed home, put in the battery, a couple SD cards...threw on my 18-55vr...fired it up, all seemed ok. I went through a few settings (at this point I had not fired a shot). Then it was time...I picked out my target..."Click"...Err message!! What the?

Of course I had formatted the SD cards right when I installed them...so I did it again...another shot..same thing.."Err"
The display reads how many shots I have remaining...but I can't get an image..

I took out, charged the battery, tried a different lens, I know the SD cards are ok, the Lock is not on the cards..
The manual talks about multiple Err messages...but the Err usually follows something else...like Err Card..etc...the manual say if it says only "Err" to take it in for repairs...Bummer..

I'm going back to the store tomorrow morning to see if a trained professional has better luck.

I shoot therefor I am!

That’s bad news. Hopefully the store has another in stock. The Err message usually means a fairly serious problem. The store should exchange it for another camera.

Charge the battery fully. I have read a couple threads now from people who got the ERR msg when using the d7k without fully charging the battery before the first use.

Charging the battery fully seems to correct the problem (at least in the 2-3 cases I have read about it).

Just a thought, was the card in the top or bottom slot? Not even sure that makes any difference but its a thought.

Check the manual. At the back (Page 305), there are hints as to what the Err means.

If 'Err' blinks, its a camera malfunction.
-E- means no memory card
'Card Err' says means its the card but check which Error is being referred to

And there are others.

That happened to me. I opened the SD door and found that I had not pushed the bottom card all the way in. I pushed it until it clicked into place and have not seen the "err" again.

I fully charged yesterday..same thing....like I said in my post, the Err I'm getting is not followed by any other words..just flashing Err..

I tried multiple cards..in multiple slots, you can easily tell when the card is seated correctly..so that's not it. At this point I'm just waiting for the store to open today...

There's nothing worse then getting all excited...and my first experience with Nikon this happens.

I shoot therefor I am!

This happened to me, however I found that it was the memory card. I was using a SanDisk GB Ultra. All of my other memory cards worked fine. I know it was the card because my computer wouldn't even read it. I called up SanDisk and they are going to send me a new one. I don't think it was the camera.

Is your mirror stuck in the up position? I had that happen to mine after 2 months of use. Nikon replaced the shutter mech. Never fun when something like that happens. Good luck.

hi all,

Today it happened the same to me!
That was after deleted all the pictures in the memory card. i did it in my computer.
It’s a Sandisk GB ultra purchased in the kit D7000 + Nikkor 18-105…. my computer can’t read this card sometimes…and sometimes it's O.K...

That was the same message “err”
I tried to reverse the slot and formated several times this card until the problem was over..but I don’t know what happened!
(excuse me for my poor vocabulary, i hope it's understandable)

Brand new D7000 - I have experienced the same problem - randomly. I have experienced it with different lenses. On close inspection, it appears that the mirror locks in the open position. I have checked the battery - fully charged, memory cards seated tightly, etc. There is no "rhyme or reason" to this err. It happens sporadically and I have now experienced it with multiple lenses ( 105m 2.8 Macro, 50mm 1.8, kit 18-105mm, Tokina 11-16mm superwide, etc). I have now sent to Nikon for service. Will update when I receive back from Nikon. (Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed).

Same here. Got ERR message after 3 months after I bought it. Now is in service for over 72 hours and the service people still didn't managed to find out whats wrong with it.
Will wait 2 weeks as the legislation say for a product in guarantee and after that will sue the Company if they will not repair it or replace it.
