"Live view darkness again"

US

When I switch into Live Mode, the screen is initially very dark, then when I press the AF-L button, it illuminates to the brightness I would expect long enough to grab focus, then turns dark again, so dark that I can;t even see the image in bright daylight.
Using a 70-300 NIkon 4.5 = I had this problem before, reset all the commands, and it fixed it, but it's back today. Only change I made to the settings was switching Autofocus mode to F but F or S doesn;t affect the darkness.
Any clue about that?
best.

My mistake. I had EV set to -3 and that was affecting what I saw in the LCD.

I dunno, I think you are on to something Dennis.

I swear I was getting this same behaviour in the field while filming white Ptarmigan in white snow, so I had positive EV dialled in. And in medium bright outdoor light it was very difficult to see what I was filming except for when I occasionally tapped the shutter for refocus.

If it means sacrificing battery power, I would like to turn this 'feature' off.

Best regards, SteveK

Yeah -3 would definitely do that. Wish there was an auto reset button. I don't think the U1 or U2 buttons reset the manual exposure compensation.
