Hi everybody, after using my D7100 now for a few weeks, I was wondering what setttings you people saving to the U1 & U2 setting. It would be great is some of you could share the settings. Love to try some out and see the difference between that and the auto/feature settings. Cheers

It all depends on your various shooting needs. Here's my (current) thinking, which is always subject to change...
First of all, my base settings duplicate what I'd previously been using on my D90: aperture priority, base ISO, matrix metering, AF-C/continuous low, 21 focus points, and AE-L/AF-L button programmed to function as AF-ON. I shoot RAW only (14-bit lossless compressed). Based on my experience with the D90 I also use Auto WB (I can fix this if needed from the RAW file in post processing) and I leave Active-D lighting on Normal. I have become very comfortable to begin from these settings and start adjusting just about everything as conditions warrant for an individual shot. I also always try to return to this base condition.
I've decided to use U1 as my HDR setting, so it is basically identical to the base settings except it is pre-set to a 5-shot bracket at 1-ev intervals. I'll be doing a lot of indoor HDR this weekend, so we will see how this goes!
I'm still not quite sure what I want to do with U2. One option is to set it in a "birds in flight" mode, withe 9-point autofocus, continuous high, and auto-ISO with the shutter speed floor fast enough for a hand-held 300mm telephoto. I think I might wind up with several U2 options that I can set for different circumstances.

I love the camera and the two U settings as: is set up for bracketing so camera AF off, ISO 400, apture constant (U1 wide angle lens apture at F5.6 a U2 for longer lenses so apture set to F11) shutter is what changes for the exposures and I have both to bracket a 1 stop 5 exposures each That's my current usage Jeff

U1: This is my "Manual means manual, dangit!" setting, based on Manual. In particular, it disables Auto-ISO (which I usually have enabled), so that I can directly control the exposure with shutter speed and aperture adjustments — the camera doesn't fight me by attempting to compensate with ISO.
U2: This is my "Print while on the go" setting, based on Aperture Priority. This mode sets the shooting mode to RAW+JPEG and the card roles to RAW 1/JPEG 2. I would an EyeFi card in Slot 2 when shooting in this mode, and I have it set up to talk to my phone. From the phone, I print to a portable printer (Polaroid Pogo) over Bluetooth
U3: If the camera had a third setting, I'd use it for studio strobe settings. Manual, 1/250s, f/5.6, manual ISO, flash white-balance.
