"Nikon D 7100 to IPhoto 11"

Philadelphia, US

I recently got my nikon D 7100 and shot a number of RAW photos but when I tried to download them them to my IPhoto 11 I got nothing.
Any suggestions where to find the upgrade for the 7100 RAW format.

Thanks Much

You will have to wait for Apple to provide a Digital Camera RAW Compatibility update, which should come in the form of a Software Update notification.

Meanwhile, you can use ViewNX to convert the files to a format that iPhoto can read.

Make sure that you use ViewNX2 V2.7.4.

I believe it includes the D7100.

When you open it click on Transfer on the ViewNX2 Tool Bar which will open Nikon Transfer 2.
When the D7100 icon appears (when you turn on your D7100) click on the small triangle in the lower right corner of the icon. Click on Slot 1 or Slot 2 to download your pictures.

Once you open it in ViewNX2 you can save it as a 16-bit TIFF file and import it to another post processing application.

The NEF file format is different for each sensor. It's also proprietary to Nikon plus they don't publish it so software companies such as Apple and Adobe have to reverse-engineer a solution. That's why it will take a few weeks to get a compatible software driver for D7100 NEF images.

Thanks to everyone for replying to my post about downloading 7100 RAW files. I appreciate the information. I will be looking for the update for Iphoto. Hopefully that won't take too long as it kind of complicated to work in View NX. I much prefer Iphoto.
