"Nikon D7100 Movie Focus settings?"

Lafayette, US

I don't plan on shooting a lot of video with my D7100 or my D4 for that matter, but if I am going to do it at all, I want to give it my best effort. The issue I am having on both is I can't seem to find the best way to focus?

I can't seem to find any setting that will give me full time auto focus, so I tend to keep my finger on the AF button that I have set. The second issue with some is lens noise and searching all over.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.......

Chuck

On the D7000, once you are in Live View mode you can press the AF button and turn the dial to select AF-F mode. Not sure if it's the same on the D7100.

But, honestly, the autofocus in that mode is probably pretty poor -- it is on the D7000. Most people shooting video are manually focusing, I suspect. That's what I do.

Regarding lens noise, the only real fix is to use an external microphone.

I agree on the external mike, and I have the Nikon Gun mike which takes most of it away. I guess if I was videoing something at a distance manual focus would work better, but with I was working on required several changes.

Thanks for the suggestion.....
