Because it allowed me to buy a D7000 for less than I paid for my D80 which it replaced

Amen to this philosophy. I am looking forward to applying this whan they release an AFS 300 f4 VR.

That said, I have the D7000 - great camera, all you'll ever need in DX for things that don't move. But, I'm pretty sure the D7100 will be an order of magnitude better for things that do move.

JMO but I don't believe the used prices of the 300mm f4 af-s will drop when the new model comes out. I've found highly regarded models of used equipment usually retains its used value after a higher priced replacement comes out.

When I worked on the farm as a youth, one day my brother in law walked up and said
"Never use a 12" Crescent wrench for a hammer --------

when a 10" Crescent wrench will do"

I never knew if he was kidding or not!!

That also applies to my D7000, I am happy with my 10 inch "Crescent Wrench"!
