"D7000 Review in Progress"

Calgary, CA

Colleagues,

I am on a few days vacation and using the D7000. A preliminary review with sample images (some at high ISO) can be found here:

http://www.wolfwillow.com/Photo/WPhoto/PhotoTopics/CR_D7000/WPTNikon_D70005.php

As compared to the D300 I have found improvements in focusing accuracy (with long telephoto, at least) and in noise performance. It's looking very good so far.

Best wishes,
JH

Thanks for the review. Looking forward to more updates.

Your comment about the "pro" magnesium alloy body being like the D300 might be misleading. I could be wrong, but I believe the D300's entire casing is made of the magnesium alloy. Only the D7000's top and rear panels are made of it.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the response. My remark re the magnesium construction was based on a "blow-up" photo at another site which showed full casing. Encouraged by your observation I have discovered that information was incorrect (must have been a D300 image used (?)). The D7000 does not have a full magnesium body but what appears, rather, more like a metal skeleton protecting the most vulnerable components. I will revise my review accordingly.
