"Travel Choice of D700 or D3100 with 18-200 3.5 VR" Sat 09-Jun-12 03:34 AM by Zapple

Been banging around with this and thought I'd ask for some opinions... I'm traveling to Europe for my first time for a week, three cities in 6 days, starting in London. Traveling light so limiting myself to one body and (gulp) one lens, sb800(?) and iPad. Converters a plenty. 4-rechargeable AA's, mini tripod, Polarizer and ND, in back back. Knowing crop factor and DX-FX differences, do I go with the D700 body and 18-200 or my friends D3100 and the same lens. I cant carry the 24-70 and 70-200, thats more than double the weight! Side note: I carry my Sony T-9 which, if I do say so, captures some very nice HD Video. Mind you I am still a stills guy...
Thanks in advance for the thoughts and help. Any input on where to go while in Ghent and Brussels would be appreciated, along if you have any good websites insouldmperuse before my departure.

Should this be in the D700 or D3100 forum, rather than here in the D7000 forum?
Given that the 18-200 will only work well in DX Crop on the D700, and you'll probably want wide rather than long for most city shooting, you'll get 5Mpixel from the D700 or 14 from the D3100. OTOH, the D700 may be (much?) better in low light. Perhaps carry it, and leave the SB-800 at home. You don't *HAVE* to shoot the 18-200 in crop mode on the D700, so you might be able to get some more interesting crops than the standard one if you let the camera shoot full frame.
