Hi, yes it does, you may have to change the f stop (with the front dial on the d7000) as required but the 70-200mm f2.8 lens will give f2.8 at 70mm and all focal lengths to 200mm.

However if you shoot P mode or AUTO mode the camera will preset the F stop and you will have little or no control of the f stop.

I'm sure you just stated it wrong but in P or Program mode the camera sets the intial exposure but you have full control of which f-stop to use. In Auto mode there is no control of f-stop used.

Quote:

In mode P, different combinations of shutter speed
and aperture can be selected by rotating the main
command dial while the exposure meters are on
(“flexible program”).

Rotate the dial to the right for large apertures (low f-numbers) that blur background details or fast shutter speeds that “freeze” motion.

Rotate the dial to the left for small apertures (high f-numbers) that increase depth of field or slow shutter speeds that blur motion.

All combinations produce the same exposure. page 68

Respectfully,
Frank

Frank,
many thanks, I stand corrected on the P mode.

That is the benefit of that lens...you get f/2.8 across the whole focal distance range.

Yes, the 70-200mm VR has a constant maximum aperture

That characteristic doesn't alter when mounting the lens on a DX camera, because the lens' focal length doesn't actually change. It's still a 70-200mm lens, but it provides the angle of view that you would get from a 105-300mm lens on the FX format.
