I have a SB900 set to remote

and the D7000 Set to commander mode

Built in Flash set to --
Group A TTL with 0 comp

but everytime i try to take a picture, the D7000 flash still fires.. along with the SB900

isnt -- meant to keep the on-board flash from firing.

You'll find much more about this over in our Speedlights and Lighting Forum, but briefly...

The built-in flash has to emit pulses of light, even when set to "--", as that's how the remote Speedlight is controlled and triggered. The amount of light emitted will not affect the exposure unless you are very close to the subject.
