"Onone Software's Focal Point"

US

Until I can afford a better lens, I added Bokeh with Focal Point.

(I know it's cheating)

Anybody know what kind of flower this is?

That's very effective. I wouldn't have known if you hadn't said.

Yes it is effective, but it doesn't work in every circumstance.

The flower shots work well because the main subject is easily selected in PS.

I selected the flower, inversed the selection, and then opened Focal Point.

One could do the same thing in PS using Blur / Lens Blur.

However, Focal Point goes way beyond Blur, and is far more creative.

Busy photos don't work as well, at least with my skill set.

It will never take the place of a good lens.

Topaz has just released a Photoshop plug in called Lens Effects which offers similar abilities. I have been looking it over for the past couple of days. Despite a somewhat high learning curve compared to other Topaz products, it looks good in that it seems to give better results than Photoshop alone, especially in the transition areas.

There are some situations where even better glass can't overcome physics!

Nice work! If blurring is cheating then sharpening would be too so we would all be cheaters!

I wrote a review of this plug-in some time ago and based on my testing I think your results are very, very good. I don't think you could improve on this. BTW, I may be wrong but I think that is a primrose. We get a lot of these where I live during the spring wildflower season (when there is one).
