"Getting images into LR3"
Fri 10-Feb-12 02:21 PM by esantos

MD, US

Hi,

When I try to get my images from my camera/card and into LR3, I get the message "No camera found". This happens all the time. I can, however, get the images onto my computer by using Adobe Bridge. My camera is a D700 and I am using a MAC.

Any thoughts?

From within LR you should be able to do a "file/import photos" and then select a source. Are you saying when you do that you don't see your camera or your CF card? Do you see them in finder?

Hi Charlie,

The message is "No camera found". I don't see my camera or CF card in finder, but when I click on Bridge and got "Get photos from camera", there they are!

Patricia, check this dialog (I gave an answer, not the right one, later provided the right answer)

Camera USB has to be set to PTP for LR3. Mass Storage = seen in Finder and Bridge.

Hello,

I looked for PTP & USB in my D700 manual and couldn't find it. I called Nikon and was told to go to my set-up menu, but found there was no USB setting in Set-up. I was on hold forever so I hung up and made a second call. I was then told that on the D700 it is not a camera setting that is preventing LR3 from recognizing my camera and that I should call Adobe!

Hi again, Charlie

I tried your suggestion of doing a "file/import photos". My D700 comes up as a source (and I was able to import my images), but strangely, it doesn't appear in Finder.

Are you using a USB Hub or the keyboard USB port?

Then try one of the USB ports on the computer system.

Have you tried a different USB cable?

Have you tired a card reader?

I prefer a card reader since there is no drain on the camera's battery and you can use the camera during the transfer.

Pat, have you tried a USB port on your Mac? The keyboard port may not have enough power.

p240:
"Connect the camera directly to the computer; do not connect the
cable via a USB hub or keyboard."

Card reader didn't work either?? I guess that might prove that the keyboard isn't to be used.

Hi Pat,

the keyboard-USB's on Macs are terrible to use. Indeed not enough power. Most of the time they don't work when I connect something to them. I have decided not to use them anymore and always use the USB-ports on the Mac. I use a USB-hub for most of the connections and use a dedicated one on the Mac itself for my card reader.

I think I misspoke when I said I used the keyboard USB. I am using a MacBook Pro, so what I am actually plugging into is the USB on my laptop.

The message I was getting "No camera was found" was coming from something called CameraWindow - a Canon utility - and that had nothing to do with the issue.

My computer is not recognizing my D700 as a "mass storage device". When I plug into my computer, it is not recognizing my camera at all (I never get the bar on top saying "From: D700, but strangely, it did at one time). When I go to File/Import Photos, it will import the images from my camera or card.

One more thing: the D700 doesn't show up in Finder either.

Pat

Make sure your USB cord is fully plugged in.

Others seem to be having the same problem you're having:

"...I'm shocked to now learn that Nikon removed the 'USB Mass Storage' option from the D700 (it's in the earlier D### cameras).

Having to plod our way through a front-end software package instead of copying exactly the files we want in Windows/Finder is really, really annoying.

I can only hope that in the next firmware for the D700 Nikon will correct this odd flaw."

If the card reader does not work, I would expect a bad USB port.
