"Photoshop detector?"

Bensalem, US

Is there a way to inspect a jpg downloaded from the web to determine if it was edited in Photoshop? I'm specifically referring to suspected composites.

First of all, I do not know a way but with that said, just because something was edited in Photoshop, this does mean it was a composite. All my images end up in Photoshop. If it is not a photojournalist type of image, what does it matter if it is a composite or not?

I don't know that there is any way to tell if the image has been altered without using forensic software.

I've never played racquetball, but the photo appears to show a player who has just struck the ball with feet on the floor and one who is preparing to return the ball high in the air. I would think the ball will be back to her end of the court before she can position herself to play it. So altered or not the image does not make "sense" to me.

I play the game and oftentimes you need to jump to allow your opponent a straight-in shot. That is what the image appears to be, but it just looks odd to me.

Considering the scale, the flying player is closer to the camera than the player
against the wall. They are not in the same plane.

If you have (and file) a legal action, your attorney should be able to subpoena the original electronic image, which might answer the question. You probably know that some Nikon cameras (at least the D700) support image authentication, and offers softward to read authenticated .NEF files which would prove that a specific image had been altered.
Absent that, I don't know of a way to prove it was altered unless you can find shadows in opposing directions or some other strong evidence.
