Hi Mark,

Welcome to Nikonians!
No! You will need a Nikon SC-17, SC-28, or SC-29 TTL extension cord.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Hi
Thnaks Marty
so you cant use it like the D70
i use to just use the pop up flash to activate the sb-600

looking at what you gave me they all seem to have cords, but i wont the SB-600 wireless like i use to use on D70

Hi Mark,

If you add an SB-800, SB-900, or SU-800 set in Commander mode in your D5000's hotshoe it will work just like your D70. Unfortunatly the D5000 does not have a built in Commander.
In early 2010 Pocket Wizard will be introducing the MiniTT1-Nikon transmitter ($199.95) and the FlexTT5-Nikon tranciever (219.95) which will provide RF wireless TTL flash control with a maximum range of 800 ft. Of course by the time you purchase on of each you are very close to the price of an SB-900.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

That is correct. But if you use all manual flash setting, you could use an SU-4 or other optical trigger to trigger the SB-600 off camera but you lose the CLS iTTL modes. Hama Hot-Shoe Slave or Wein HS-XL D Hot Shoe Ultra Slave for Digital Preflash Camera Systems

You also might want to look at the Speedlights forum.

The AS-15 is for adding a PC port to camera with a hot shoe but no PC port. Your SB-600 does not have a PC port so you will need another adapter and a PC cord to add a PC foot to the SB-600, Hama Universal Flash Adapter. Note that PC cord is very unreliable and you should have a PC alignment tool and spare cord.
