comes with two battery inserts, one for the NIKON EN-EL14 types, and one for AA batteries. I'm interested if anyone has ever used this grip with high capacity AA batteries, e.g. SANYO AA 2700 mAh rechargeables. I would imagine, this grip with 6 AA batteries of that capacity would last a lot longer then with two standard Nikon EN-EL14.
Anyone had any experience with AAs in those DSTE grips...?

Yes, but not by as much as you might think. Assuming new batteries, those 6 AA's will bring you 19.4 Wh, while two EN-EL14's will net you 15.4 Wh, while two EN-EL14a's will bring 17.8 Wh.
Given the choice, two EN-EL14's would be my way to go, all else being equal, due to cold/hot performance, recovery speed and so on, but good Ni-MH are cheaper than genuine Nikon EN-EL14 packs and either should work quite well with the modest power needs of a D5200.
