Firmware update impacts third party batteries
Apparently a recent firmware upgrade has caused certain third party batteries to no longer work.
I don't know the real reasons, but as batteries become more sophisticated, this is an increased risk of third party batteries.

Actually, Nikon tells you the reason why they updated and changed battery handling, I posted about it when the firmware upgrade first came out:

I'm sure the other battery manufacturers will learn to modify their batteries soon enough so they work again...
An undeniable paradox: To think that there is any such thing as an absolute rule is at worst naïve, and at best, shortsighted. There is no such thing as an always-true, all context- or situation-salient, absolute rule that always holds true including this one!

Ow you can turn that check of your self.
At this site you can patch your firmware and are able to turn on or of what you like. It works very good for the 1.01 fw, 1.02 fw is still a beta version.
The patch i like the most is the NEF uncompressed format, then you get nice big files and a great picture as we may aspect from our nikon's.
