"Nikon D5200 - Live Preview Shutter Speed Limitation"

When using the Live Preview mode I am not able to use a shutter speed slower than 1/30. I believe this is a safety feature for video exposure.

Since I use Live Preview even for still photography, this limitation severely limits Live Preview usage.

Is there a way to use slower speeds when using Live Preview?

Thank you.

Turn off Auto ISO.

Make sure LiveView is not in movie mode or the camera is not in Auto.

I appreciate your reply.

ISO is not set at auto and shooting mode is manual. But I am not aware that there is a so-called "video mode" when it comes to live view functionality. Can you be more specific?

Thank you.

The D5200 doesn't have a Live View switch to go from movie to stills as does the D7100. (Once in Live view, it only depends upon pushing the shutter button or the movie button.) You have to go into the Shooting Menu to Movie Settings > Manual Movie Settings and select ON.

Thank you! Your tip worked but as it turns out you actually have to turn OFF Manual Movie Settings in order to be able to select speeds slower than 1/30 in LiveView mode.
