I had a look at one today. Didn't really play but it felt good in my hands. Possibly going back tomorrow to buy one

Hi Bill,

While it is available in Europe and Asia, it is not available in North America yet.
Keep checking the Nikon USA Press Room for the latest information.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Sorry, won't be posting my experiences after all - decided to go for the 5100 in the end - the price was just too much of a bargain (£295 GBP for body only and bought a 16-85VR and together it all came to £100 less than the 5200).

If the D5200 is available in Europe, perhaps we'll see hands-on reviews soon?

There are a lot of sample images out if you search the web which can be viewed in 100% (6k x 4k).

The d5200 is available where I live in the shops. Approx. £500 for body only and £6100 for body + 18-55 VR.

I am sure we will soon see some reviews (dpreview, dxomark etc.).
I think you get lot more picture quality in the d5200 than the 1 V2. The price level is the same and the d5200 is not that big. Both cameras requires a bag. I will probably go for the d5200.

I see the Nikon D5200 with 18-55mm VR Lens kit available online from DigitalRev for $929 no shipping fee in the US. Don't know where it would be shipping from.

I want this camera in my hands in the worst way, but something tells me to wait until it becomes a bit more widely available.

DigitalRev ships from Hong Kong. That's where they're based. I have a D5200 (body only) arriving via FedEx tomorrow (Monday Dec 31), and I'll be reviewing it ASAP for Kickstartnews. I'm going to mount a Nikkor 18-300 on it for initial shooting in a local wildlife area, and then switch to either a Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 or a an AF-S 50mm f/1.4 for some street shooting.

. . . and my D5200 has arrived. Excellent shipping from DigitalRev and FedEx. Three days, total, from HK to Toronto. The camera checks out fine, uses the EN-EL14 battery, and I've mounted a shiny new Nikkor 18-300 VRII.

I'll be shooting the D5200 on New Year's Day and throughout the rest of the week. I'll post when I get something decent.
